Michigan College Democrats: Building a Better Michigan
Apathy has played a huge role in US politics since, well, forever. That all has been changing (thankfully) over the past handful of years since the progress we have made as a country in the direction of democracy as started being highjacked and overturned.
Having a 19-year-old son myself who is very politically literate and who has, over the past couple of years, has challenged me in my political views to ensure that what I believe and know is really what I believe and know. I ejjoy discussing politics with my son more than I enjoy talking about it with pretty much anyone. We have some amazingly deep conversations.
This experience is what led me to invite the officers of Michigan College Democrats to the podcast, The Righteous Uproar. We recently had a nice chat with three of them, all Gen Z, and all amazing young people who are helping me feel more secure in a solidly democratic future. Adam Lacasse, Pesident; Ethan Lang, Press Secretary; and Stella Camerlengo, Communications Director.
There was an important point made during this conversation that is such an important overarching one to make: these young people have grown up with nothing but political volitility. With the "normalcy" of gun violence at school. It's insane to me that this is their normal. They are far more political than previous generations due to this volitility. It's all they really know. Take that into consideration when listening to this podcast. It sure is a good one.
